Precautions To Take While Working From Home

As we all are working from home nowadays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and some of us must be surely working on some of the most critical & confidential environments. Some bad guys with high skills are looking at their own profit and attacking vulnerable system even in such critical crisis. As we know “There’ll be good people, and there’ll be bad guys too in every situation.” it is very important to take necessary precautions to protect yourself while working remotely.


  • If you’re working from home then you would either have a laptop/desktop provided by your organization.
  • Or you would use your personal computer to work on.

In both of the above cases, you must ensure that you’re adhering to the below-listed pointers.

  • Your system has all the latest OS updates installed. Check for updates on a daily basis if the automatic update is not setup.
  • You have anti-virus software installed. Also, update anti-virus software.
  • Update all the software to the latest version.
  • Ensure you’re using an updated browser for internet access.
  • While browsing the internet, make sure you do enter any credentials on non-https websites.
  • Do not click on any link in the email if it’s from an unknown party.
  • Neither download any attachments from the email if it’s sent by an unknown party.
  • Do not use untrusted proxy servers to bypass website filters set by your organization.
  • It is advisable to use a ‘Two Factor Authentication’ for accessing critical portals.
  • Do not share any credentials over WhatsApp or any other social media messaging services. Instead, call the other party to share the password.
  • Do not keep your WiFi open.
  • Make sure, no unknown person or device is connected to your WiFi.
  • Do not share screenshots of critical systems over WhatsApp or other social media messaging services. User your official IM or secure email instead.
  • Last and the most important one, follow the guidelines set by the InfoSec department of your organization, It is your responsibility.

If you’re using non-enterprise remote desktop sharing software like Ammyy Admin, AnyDesk, Team Viewer, UltraViewer, etc. Then you should keep these pointers in mind.

  • Make sure you’ve downloaded the software from the official website.
  • Make sure you’re using updated software.
  • Do not send the password for screen sharing on WhatsApp or other social media messaging services.
  • Keep a strong password with a combination of Alphabets, Numbers and Special Characters.
  • Change password on a daily basis if possible, otherwise change weekly.
